April 30

"O You who never fail to provide for your children, we pray you that we may learn to trust you for all things. May we remember also that the power of prayer and faith depends upon strict obedience to your commands. In Christ's name. Amen."

April 29

"We thank you for your greatness, O God, and that you have been seen in the gentle and loving nature of Jesus Christ, who made himself of no reputation. He took upon himself the form of a servant. We thank you for your earnest followers who have so reflected and exemplefied his life. Help us to be like them in childlike humility. In Jesus' name. Amen."

April 28

"Our loving Father, we thank you that you have withheld your great truths from those who have been proud and overbearing, and revealed them to those of humble spirit. Help us, we pray you, to live so near you in the simplicity of our lives that we may gain the humility of self-sacrifice and self-effacement. For Christ's sake. Amen."

April 27

"Our gracious and loving Father, we thank you that you have given to us in your holy Word such wonderful lessons of humility. We thank you for men who knew the greatness of this world, but who knew the weakness of human nature, and who bowed before you in humility that they might have your strength. Help us to be humble, and to take everything to you in faith. For Christ's sake. Amen."

April 26

"O you who are our mighty Deliverer, deliver us, we pray you from ourselves and the sins of our own hearts. As you made of David a man after your own heart, give to us forgiveness and saving grace that we may be able to break out in joyful song and gratitude for what you have done for us. We ask it in Christ's name. Amen."

April 25

"Heavenly Father, we thank you that Jesus Christ was a man subject to like passions with us. We thank you that he gave himself for us. We thank you that he is the Bread of life. May we eat of him daily, that we may grow stronger. Amen."

April 24

"O great Deliverer, free our land from the great curse of intemperance. May we all have the wisdom and the courage to take the right and safe stand upon this question. May our homes be free from the curse of this blighting evil. Save the drunkard, we pray you, and save our boys and girls from ever becoming drunkards. For Christ's sake. Amen."

- Blogger's note - I have serious reservations about this prayer, particularly the bit about "the safe stand..." This was of course written during the Temperance movement, when well meaning do-gooders managed to make drinking alchohol federally illegal via the 18th ammendment.

This prayer is however, an interesting peek into Victorian mentality. Furthermore, it can be modified to suit today's needs. Certainly imbibing has been taken too far in our culture. "May our homes be free (of drunkenness)... and save our boys and girls from ever becoming drunkards." It can also be modifed for all forms of chemical intoxication, such as drug abuse.

"Our God and Father, who loves all nations and peoples, we thank you that you early sent leaders out into the world field. We thank you that the self-sacrifice of your children has been the cause of their growth in grace and in knowledge of you. Save us from selfish faith, and send our sons and daughters out into your kingdom. For Christ's sake. Amen."

"Our loving Lord, may we be ready to suffer shame for your name's sake. May we cherish the memory of those who willingly suffered for you, and hold up with them the banner of the cross. Amen."

April 21

"Grant unto us, O God, the simple, fearless faith of Peter, the rocklike apostle. May we learn the lessons of human defeat, that we may be led to divine success. May we lead men from the prophets and teachers of old to personal contact with the living Christ. Amen."

April 20

"Our loving Father, will you help us to acknowledge you as our Father, that we may give first place to you in our lives. May we remember your promise that even those who are afflicted and limited may receive normal strength if in believing faith they will wait before you. May our faith be more intense and real. Amen."

April 19

"We thank you, our God and Father, that you have given to us a realization of yourself, as we have seen Jesus Christ at times transfigured before us. May the transfiguration of Christ mean the trasformation of our lives. May we see you as a Saviour in our justification, but see you as a Sanctifier through the Holy Spirit. Amen."

April 18

"Teach us, dear Father, the blessedness of forgiveness. May we forgive not because we are compelled to forgive, but because we desire to forgive, gaining your Spirit and showing your life and love in this very forcible way. The harder is it, the more may we fight to overcome. In Christ's mane. Amen."

April 17

"Almighty God, you who are all powerful, we thank you that you have given unlimited power to Jesus Christ, your Son. Grant to us a living, positive faith in him that the problems of our homes, our joys and sorrows, our sickness and health, may make up our daily conversation with you in prayer. And yours be the praise. Amen."

April 16

"O God, our Father in heaven, when we relize how much you have forgiven us, we wonder that we can ever hold an unforgiving spirit toward those wh have wronged us. May we always, when we pray the Lord's Prayer, remember the clause of forgiveness. For Christ's sake. Amen."

April 15

"We thank you, our blessed Lord, that in the early days of the apostles, when struggle and difficulty arose, you gave yourself so freely to men, and that today also you give yourself to us. We thank you that you teach us lessons of omnipresence; that you are not only the all-knowing and all-powerful God, but that through the Holy Spirit you are ever present with us, to bless us. Amen."

April 14

"Our Father in heaven, may we value aright the wealth of contentment and sunshine and health. May the peace of God within our hearts prompt us to give to others from that which you have given us. May we share life's blessings as we spend our time in using as well as accumulating. May we find happiness in ordinary duty. Amen."

April 13

"Our loving Father, may your Church have on heart and soul as your people hold individual possessions as general trusts. May we see in another's lack our chance and privilege; gaining daily the joy of self-denial and sacrifice. Amen."

Easter Day

"We thank you, dear Master, for your victory over death. Give to us the constant victory of the resurrection truth, that we may not live in dread of death, but in anticipation of eternal life. And may we think our loved ones gone as victors. For your name's sake. Amen."

Easter Day

"Our God, Father, Son and Holy Spirit, inspire us with yourself and fill us with your Spirit. May the resurrection in all its reality be ours this Easter Day. May death and sin be forgotten as we enjoy and exult in your life and love. May our hearts praise you today as we let you inspire and control us. Amen."

Easter Day

"Our risen Lord and Master, we have entered upon the celebration of the greatest day of all history. Sin and death, weakness and suffering, darkness and pain, have forever been cast into the seas of the past, and the Lord of life and love and victory has called us into friendship with himself. May we live the resurrection truth as we live your life always. Amen."

Easter Day

"Our blessed Master, who did come from the tomb and bring the joy of the resurrection to mankind, help us to rise above our sins even as we have risen with you. Help those who are still entombed in sin to come to the liberty and light of yourself. May men face their duties in the new hope of your risen live. Amen."

April 12

"Our heavenly Father, teach us to be humble, gentle, quiet, patient and forgiving. May we look beyond the faults of others to their virtues. May we aim to help them overcome rather than try to overcome them for our own justification. For Christ's sake. Amen."

April 11

"O you who are ever the Good Samaritan, may we learn your secret and follow your example. May no demand of professionalism or duty of form incline us to pass by the man or woman who needs help. May we be good Samaritans every day as we walk our accustomed highways, and so may we lead others to you. Amen."

April 10

"O loving One who is our Father and our Saviour, fill us, we pray you, with the Spirit of Christ, that we may learn how to do these very things he teaches us. May we make our enemies our friends by making them your friends first. May they see you in our attitude and life, and take knowledge of us that we have been with you. Amen."

April 9

"Our loving God, we pray you that we may not overvalue the possessions of life here and undervalue eternal life and welfare. May we be willing to follow you, whatever the cost. May we realize that present possession is limited, and eternal inheritance without limit. Love us not only for what we are, bur for what we are willing to give up. In Christ's name. Amen."

April 8

"To you we bow the knee, our Father in heaven, and ask that you would grant us, according to your inexhaustible riches, that we may be supplied with all your varied and gracious gifts. May we be so rooted and grounded in love that we may attain your hight and view the length and breadth of your kingdom; and may we hasten its coming. Amen."

April 6

"We thank you, O Lord, that you have made such wonderful provision through Jesus Christ, your Son, for our weaknesses and for our sins. You have given to us the free gift of grace. May we accept the gift with belief and conviction, knowing that you are able to do through us that which we could never do ourselves. For Jesus' sake. Amen."

April 5

"Our heavenly Father, we thank you that you are a victorious leader, and that we are begotten of you. It is wonderful to know that the sons of such a Father must overcome the world. May we have the faith that gives us assurance in the little things of everyday life, home, school and business. Amen."

April 4

"Almighty God, our Father in heaven, we thank you that you are the victor over unrighteousness. May we relize that nothing can separate us from the love of Christ. April 2

"We thank you, our God and Father, for the infinite source of riches in you. We thank you that you can supply all our need. May those who are at ease in Zion arouse themselves to the world's need and suffering, realizing that all gifts of life are from you, and that the gift of wealth implies the responsibility of benevolence. In Jesus' name. Amen."
